Transfer Talk

Artists impression - Deco and Robinho in Chelsea's home kit
There's nothing better than starting the month off with transfer speculations... and well in this case confirmations too. The news broke yesterday morning that Deco would be joining fellow compatriot and former Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari to Stamford Bridge.

I am sure I have come at the right time to do great things and be able to help Chelsea go back to the way it was and come back to being the first one, not only in England but also to win the Champions League that has been their dream for so long."

And then I came across this article that hinted Robinho might be on his way there too.
New coach Scolari sees Robinho as an important piece in his new plans & has solicited the player personally to Chelsea owner Abramovich.

Wow, nothing wreaks more of desperation than Chelski owner Roman Abramovich. His desire to win the Champions League must be at an all time psychotic high and again, just as he's did 2-3 years ago, he will spare no expense to see his team do it. Deco's statement was testament to that. "...also to win the Champions League that has been their dream for so long".
Gee, you could almost imagine Abramovich sleeping at night in his blue and white branded flannel pyjamas, John Terry knee high socks rolled up over the pants and mock Champions League trophey pillow under his arm whilst sucking his own thumb. Good luck Chelski cause by the looks of the transfer market so far, this season is shaping up to be a doesy!

Spain Crowned Champions of Europe!

Germany v Spain - Torres was unstoppable against an otherwise solid German defence
Once again I must apologise for my tardy post on this topic, but I couldn't help partying with the hundreds of thousands of people on the streets of Vienna after the match and then the next morning, after about one hour of shut-eye, I was boarding a plane to come home.
So by now there's no doubt you've read all the reports and seen all the pics, therefore I'm just going to quickly touch on some of my fav moments of a highly entertaining, highly skillful match.

In my prediction, which I didn't get to post, I stated:

For both teams it's been a while between drinks although of the two, Spain has been the thirstier. The last time they won the European Championship was in like 1964; that's 44 years ago! 44 frikin' years man! That's enough time to make anyone thirsty!... it's fair to say that given the way Spain have played in this tournament they deserve to win it.

So my final prediction was Germany 1 - 3 Spain and had Torres scored the header that hit the bottom of the post and had Sergio Ramos picked a free corner of the goals with his diving header late in the match, that 1 - 3 scoreline wouldn't have looked so silly. Never the less, the Spaniards walked away victors and yet again Germany were short changed in a major tournament final... good thing they have a young team who can bounce back to give it their all for 2010.

Spain celebrating their win

Torres goal:
Torres played the whole match like a man possessed! He chased down everything and made himself a menace for the German defense to deal with. I especially liked this one time when he showed up in the back line and pressured the ball all the way to Lehmann, whilst closing down his angle and forcing Lehmann to kick it out for a throw. If only he showed the same passion all year round with Liverpool.
