Predictions – UCL – Round of 16

Man I can’t wait for the ‘Special One’s’ Inter to waltz into Stamford Bridge tonight and walk into the next round of the Champions League… is it going to happen though, I’m actually not so sure and this is what I love about the UCL. So many unknowns, so many variables, so many theories. It’s a decision I’ve been battling all week and even though both teams have experienced slight dips in form of late, both are still very capable of pulling a result out of thin air. Therefore for the first time in PTP history, I’m going to leave this match open to opinion. I know it will go to extra time, but then anything is capable from there. And as for the other match of the night… what match!? There is only one of interest!

I predict:
Chelsea 2 v 1 Internazionale [With anything to happen in extra time!]
Sevilla 1 v 0 CSKA Moskva

With all the Nike Write History hooplah kicking about this evening, I almost forgot about the mouth watering match taking place at the San Siro tonight, when Jose Mourinho takes on his former Blues and Carlo Ancelotti takes on his former teams nemesis… I mean, it’s almost as mouth watering as your sister bro! But seriously, you need to tell her to back off a bit, shit’s costing me predictions!

With only two group matchdays left in the Champions League, I’m still scratching my head about why Group F is as wide open and ready for the picking as your sister was last night dude… but that’s a story for another day.
In fact, by now you would have expected that both Inter and Barca would have qualified for the next stage and would be sending out third strings teams to play the remaining matches. What will make this interesting though is that Barca are without Ibra and Messi… whether Inter can capitalise though, I’m not so sure and I’m almost expecting a lack of attacking flair from both teams tonight.

Stale Inter Frustrate Barca

Ever wondered what it would be like to play against Barca? Here’s an idea, jump on a freeway and try catch and the next car as it speeds on by… well go on, I’ll wait.

I’m still waiting!

What, you couldn’t even get close? Don’t worry, neither could Eto’o or the rest of Inter’s attack for that matter. And while they looked comfortable throughout the first half, the second half was a different story. Messi arose from first half obscurity and started linking with everyone to create chances and I did expect at least one goal in the match but Barca were trying to be a little too clever in their attempts at trying to get around the bus Inter had parked in front of their goal. The return leg will deliver plenty more goals… you best believe that.

Tonight sees the return of two great strikers at their old stomping grounds and I can’t wait to see Zlatan and Eto’o show their old coaches and fans, that life really is greener. I doubt we’ll see any Adebayor type tactics on their ex-players, however Zlatan has been know to be a bit of a douche in the past, so I won’t put it past him. Regardless, it’ll be a kick-ass match… and here’s how I picked the rest of ‘em.

If late night media reports are to be believed, as I type this Samuel Eto’o is most likely being relieved of his post at the Camp Nou and being replaced by none other than that long haired half-bred douche… Zlatan ‘F**k Im Good’ Ibrahimovic!

Shiiiit, if it’s one player I hate almost as much as that arrogant frog Nicolas Anelka, it has to be this guy and if this proposed “swap” deal goes through, it’s going to be interesting to see how the humble souls in Catalonia handle the big fat asteroid sized ego heading straight for their city! They should get ready to call in Bruce, Billy Bob and Ben… Pep’s gonna need all the asteroid shootin’ experience he can get!

With all do respect… Inter played like a bunch of chumps last night and for a team that’s meant to be the benchmark in Italian football at the moment, this was quite eye opening! They barely did anything to impress over the two legs of the knockout round and I’m convinced Mourinho’s ego got the better of him too, as his decision to play Viera as the holding midfielder clearly didn’t work, (Vidic took him to town for the opening goal). Must be why he “allegedly” unleashed on an unsuspecting fan outside Old Trafford after the match.
On a brighter note, United did their quintuple trophy challenge no harm and convincingly wiped the floor with the Italian champions. The way they are playing at the moment suggests that they’ll be winning another UCL final… actually, I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a bold claim that, given they’re not drawn against each other in the semi’s, I think the final of this years UCL will be between Barcelona and Manchester United. Look out!

Were there two teams playing in this match?… I’m pretty sure that till the second half Inter didn’t really touch the ball. In fact it actually looked more like a training run for United and especially Ronaldo who had half a dozen chances in the first 30min alone.
As it stands, the score probably favours Inter, cause a scored draw in a fortnights time at Old Trafford will put them through… but I don’t see that happening. If they’re to even get a sniff, at the very least they’ll need to string two passes together and maybe even cut Ibrahimovic’s fugly long locks… but again, I don’t see that happening.

Football is such a funny game… but it just get’s down right weird when it’s being played on the biggest stage in Italy and I for one just don’t understand it! One minute a manager can reprimanded his out of sorts striker because of his vicarious lifestyle and the next they’re hugging on the touch line after the striker used his hand to score a goal! Huh!? I would have been less confused about this situation if dancing dogs had taken the field wearing tutu’s while balancing beach balls on their noses… at the very least I would have thought Adriano was turning the San Siro into a freaky nightclub!

Geez, it’s that time already? It only feels like yesterday when AC were punishing an underwhelmingly average Inter side and Ronaldinho was pounding the ball into the back of the net. So what has changed since then?… well going by the image I dug up… ALOT! Gattuso has had re-constructive knee surgery ruling him out for months, Quesresma is now at warming the bench at Chelsea and ‘Golden Balls’ is desperately trying to extend his stay at the Rossoneri by declaring his undying love for the club and team… oh, how romantic he waited for a day after Valentines day to do it!
