A Greek tragedy - Panathinaikos 1 v 2 Villareal

Villareal broke Greek hearts and celebrate their win over Panathinaikos to progress to the next phase of the UCL
Only a match in Greece could promise so much (Pana had the away goal advantage), yet deliver so little (they didn't qualify)... and only in Greece could the visiting team, in an almost Euripidean manner, exact their revenge the way that only a woman betrayed by her husband could;

  • Hit out at her husband for turning his back on her, ie. score an early goal to regain the upper hand in the match;

  • Deceitfully apologise and lull him into a false sense of trust, ie. concede a goal and give the home team and fans the belief they can qualify;

  • Go straight for the jugular by killing off any belief, offspring and or mistresses he may hold dear, ie. score a late winner and ensure the only way through would be to score two more goals.

Yep, this one had Medea stamped all over it and I though Pana would get through with some ease.

Dude, you forgot that Pana has a terrible home record in Europe...they can avoid defeat away...but at home, they are scared of playing.
